How It Started: When Frontline Hospitals Called for Help
In early 2020, as the global COVID-19 pandemic swept across communities, regional hospitals and elder-care facilities faced an unprecedented catastrophe: a total depletion of basic personal protective equipment (PPE). Healthcare workers were forced to reuse single-use masks for days on end.
A grassroots group of Chinese American community members and professionals refused to stand by. Working around the clock, volunteers mobilized overseas cargo supply chains, cleared FDA and customs hurdles, and loaded personal minivans to drive N95 masks, isolation gowns, and face shields directly to hospital loading docks.
That historic mobilization demonstrated that when honest transparency and volunteer passion unite, extraordinary humanitarian impact happens with zero waste. This became the permanent DNA of Chinese Americans Charity Without Borders (CACWB).
